In Youth Justice you will have the opportunity to work together with people, partners and across places to enable young Queenslanders, especially the most vulnerable, to have positive life choices and opportunities.

You will help achieve this vision through developing and delivering initiatives, programs and interventions to:

  • Increase community safety and reduce rates of youth offending
  • Improve wellbeing of children and young people in and transitioning from youth justice
  • Reduce the disproportionate representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in the youth justice system.

The Transition Officer key responsibilities are:

  • Assist in preparing young people to participate and engage in education, training and employment programs as required; and support the development of their interpersonal and self-regulation skills.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team to plan, deliver and refer young people to education, training, and employment.
  • Work effectively within a statutory and nonstatutory environment to provide support to young people during education, vocational training, work experience and employment.
  • Collect and maintain accurate data and client records in accordance with relevant statutory, legislative, policy and procedural requirements.
  • Identify, liaise, and maintain strong working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders and community partners.
  • Contribute to a departmental culture that ensures sensitive and effective communication with people from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds as well as an appreciation of cultural protocols and an awareness of the impacts of historical policies and practices.
