About the role


Do you live and breathe amazing real-life stories that make readers gasp, laugh or cry? Or sometimes all three at the same time? Are you highly organised, a stickler for deadlines and a fast copy editor who can turn any story into a brilliant read in print and online? Then this is the job for you.

- that's life_ is Australia's biggest-selling real life magazine and we're looking for a Deputy Editor to work closely with the Editor on leading the brand on the next exciting phase of its omnichannel evolution.


This fabulous opportunity will suit someone who has at least five years of experience with a media brand, is great at managing smart, creative people and helping them excel, and has an excellent working knowledge of the law as it applies to real-life stories.


You are also highly creative and love producing amazing content that is constantly evolving to meet consumers' interests and needs.

You are great with detail, know how to inspire others, and have a hunger to further your career in a company committed to bringing the best quality content to the homes of thousands of Australian women every week.


Duties

  • Drive content lineup in print and online creation and delivery as directed by and in collaboration with the Editor, maintaining consistent quality control of all editorial content.
  • Work closely with the editorial team to assure a smooth production cycle, innovate and discuss new ideas with a proactive approach to further enhance workflow.
  • Work closely with advertising team to ensure creative and commercially appealing responses to client briefs and seamless execution of commitments.
  • Guide direct reports on their content deliverables and ways to manage and maintain efficient workflows, ensuring they implement and adhere to all company policies and procedures and oversee people leader responsibilities.
  • Assist in maintaining good relations and open lines of communication with all internal and external stakeholders.

Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years in media including senior print publication experience with real life magazine experience highly desirable and some online/social experience
  • Experience managing a team.
  • Thorough understanding of magazine workflow and production.
  • High level writing and editing abilities.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to balance commercial and editorial requirements.
  • Able to set challenging goals, think and plan ahead as well as juggle competing demands to achieve deadlines.
