About our Engineering Team

The Jetstar Engineering Team are at the forefront of delivering our superior safety standards.

They are responsible for ensuring the airworthiness of our fleet of aircraft, including completing all required maintenance that must be carried out on time and to approved standards to ensure they take to the skies safely.

At every stage, all maintenance needs to be documented, detailed records maintained, with aircraft parts ordered and available at all times.


As part of our investment in our future, we have launched the Melbourne Engineering Precinct, which is the main maintenance hub of our network.

Our team has the opportunity to work not only on Jetstar fleet, but customer aircraft - A320/21, B717 and A321 Freighter.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking an individual to fill our vacancy as Fleet Powerplant Manager.

This position is a critical leadership opportunity within our Engineering team responsible for Jetstar's asset cost along with an ongoing critical focus on complex safety components combined with providing innovative leadership to our team of Technical experts.

Reporting to our Engineering Fleet Manager and acting as a critical member of the Fleet Technical Management Leadership Team, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Management of Jetstar's engine fleet (circa total $2b in assets)
  • Providing innovative and creative people leadership to our Powerplant team.
  • Customer Fleet Management
  • Ensure all Instructions for Continuing Airworthiness are assessed, and compliance is effectively managed across the fleet
  • Ensure world fleet experience is monitored for safety threats and mitigations are put in place to eliminate exposure to Jetstar fleet
  • Review and approve modification programs associated to safety, reliability, and performance
  • Key technical focal for powerplant commercial issues including Engine & APU Overhaul Programmes
  • Effective management of BAU Projects related engines on the Jetstar and customer fleet
  • Key focal for Line Maintenance Engine/APU complex defect rectification to minimize operational disrupts and ensure asset availability.
  • Generic Warranty Recoveries
  • Development, control, and oversight of engine and APU Removal Plans and Shop Visit Work Scopes to ensure appropriate management of highly sensitive and financially critical programmes to minimise commercial exposure
  • Oversight and decision making for Qantas Group Spare Engine Management
  • Key point of contact at Jetstar for OEM's


Key to achieving success in this role will be your ability to balance the operational, daily reactive requirements of the role whilst maintaining your focus on strategic improvement opportunities and creating a performance, safety and customer focused team culture.

About you

We are seeking a Technical leader with a history of expertise in aviation, combined with strong demonstrated leadership experience


Skills and attributes include:

  • A LAME or Professional Engineering qualification, ideally coupled with Tertiary qualifications in Engineering Management, Aviation or a related field (highly regarded)
  • Demonstrated understanding of process improvement and problem solving methodologies, such as Lean Six Sigma
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
  • A superior customer focus capable of identifying customer needs and resolving customer issues
  • Strong negotiations skills, with ability to effectively analysis and utilise insights to support decision making and improvements
  • Confidence in communicated and presenting to a range of senior stakeholders
  • A genuine interest in leading others and creating a high performance, innovative team
