Associate Director, Advisory and Operations


VLA has a fantastic opportunity for a strategic and dynamic individual to join our People and Workplace Services (P&WS) team as Associate Director, Advisory and Operations.

This is a senior generalist role with an ER focus, where stakeholder management is key.


The AD, Advisory & Operations reports to and partners with the Director of People and Workplace Services to extend their reach and capacity, and provides expert compliance and employee relations support.

Leading the People & Culture Advisory and Payroll teams, you will be at the forefront of business partnering.

Operationally, the role is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of recruitment, HR Advisory, Business Partnering, Payroll, HR systems and reporting functions.

Strategically, the role provides people management advice and guidance to VLA's Executive Management Group and Board, to equip them to deliver VLA's strategic priorities and meet key legislative and industrial obligations.

About you
We're looking for a trusted executive partner who is known for building high-performing, dynamic and customer-focused HR teams.


Ideally, you'll also bring:


  • A successful record as a senior HR leader who sets and drives effective HR strategies and initiatives to support achievement of business objectives (legal or government sector experience preferred).
  • Experience in policy, process and systems design and improvement to support efficient and effective people management activities, and a great employee experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of Australian employment laws and regulations, and experience maintaining positive industrial relations, partnering with unions and senior leaders to create a motivating, supportive and productive VLA work environment.
  • Tertiary qualifications (or equivalent experience) in HR, Management, Psychology, or related discipline.
