About the role


This is an exciting role for a scientist that wants to contribute to the success of the EPA as it enters a new era of environmental protection in Victoria.

Working under direction of Incident Monitoring Coordinator, you will support the delivery of capability uplift in EPA's regional units which will enhance the way they conduct in-field screening for air, water, and soil contaminants to rapidly understand environmental impacts.

The role will support capability uplift across all environmental monitoring capabilities at EPA.


Duties

  • Support the delivery of capability uplift for response to emergencies to enable EPA to provide rapid response monitoring and investigation for air, water and contaminated land
  • Support the development, improvement, and delivery of EPA's Incident Monitoring technical training programs to build staff capability across the EPA and emergency services.
  • Support the deployment of equipment by assisting in the maintenance, calibration, servicing, and repairs of EPA's equipment and fleet, in line with EPA's emergency response protocols.
  • Work closely with the Incident Coordination Unit to ensure monitoring services are available and can be rapidly deployed in response to incidents and emergencies.

Skills and experience

  • A relevant tertiary degree and/or post graduate qualifications in applied science/engineering or environmental science or a related science discipline is desirable.
  • A current driver's licence.
  • Ability to use, maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot scientific equipment and general laboratory facilities
  • Knowledge of techniques to monitor the environment
  • A broad understanding of environmental regulation as it relates to pollution and waste is desirable.
