About the Role:


Reporting to the Team Leader, Field Specialists - Major Industries, the Field Specialist - Major Industries is a member of a small team responsible for the provision of expert compliance and enforcement reviews, technical advice and operational support relating to major industries, aligned to EPA's strategic priorities to prevent harm to Victorian communities and the environment from pollution and waste.


You will actively contribute to a positive organisational culture and ensure you achieve the highest standards of performance and integrity; and foster genuine partnerships across all levels of government, industry, and community to support the delivery organisational outcomes.


In this role you will:


  • Under the direction of the Team Leader, Field Specialists
  • Major Industries, plan and deliver programs to improve the regulation of major industries, developing riskbased approaches to solving environmental and human health problems.
  • Actively contribute to the development of a positive and high performing team culture, including by identifying and implementing opportunities to improve teamwork practices.
  • Work closely with regional operations teams in implementing compliance and enforcement audits, reviews and actions for complex sites and cases related to major industries with a view to improving compliance outcomes and preventing harm to communities and the environment from pollution and waste.
  • Provide specialist expertise to support effective frontline regulation of major industries aligned to EPA's strategic priorities, including leading and supporting site inspections to support the assessment of risks presented by major industries to the environment and human health.
  • Support investigations and enforcement action relating to major industries, including the preparation of statutory documents and prosecution briefs; provide input into policy, permissioning, programs / projects and other work being undertaken across EPA aligned to strategic and regulatory priorities.
  • Contribute to the upskilling of regional operational teams and other parts of EPA in the regulation of major industries, including providing training and technical advice.

Skills and Experience:


  • A relevant tertiary degree or qualifications is desirable.
  • Experience and expertise in the regulation of major industries.
  • A knowledge and understanding of Victoria's environmental protection laws.
  • A broad understanding of environmental regulation as it relates to pollution and waste is desirable.
