About the Northern Endeavour Branch
Ready to set sail on an extraordinary career journey?
Be part of the ground-breaking Commonwealth program, leading the decommissioning of the offshore Northern Endeavour facility and be surrounded by committed people to tackle unprecedented challenges for the Australian Government.
The Northern Endeavour Branch is on a mission to decommission the Northern Endeavour – a 274m long floating production storage and offtake (FPSO) facility that is permanently moored between the Laminaria and Corallina oil fields, approximately 550km northwest of Darwin in the Timor Sea. To decommission the facility safely and effectively and protect the environment, the program of work comprises three phases.
The opportunity
We are seeking candidates to fill Project Delivery Manager roles at the Executive Level 2, to lead the delivery of the Northern Endeavour decommissioning program of work, focussed on Phases 2 and 3.
In these roles, you will be responsible for:
What's in it for you?
You will gain significant industry exposure in the rapidly expanding decommissioning sector. We take pride in being pioneers in Government to decommission an ageing oil and gas facility. Apply your wealth of experience and expertise to navigate complex challenges that arise during this process. From day one, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with industry experts and gain insights on how ageing oil and gas infrastructure is decommissioned, and contribute to setting new standards for the decommissioning industry in Australia along the way.
We will support you to develop your career. It is estimated that $60 billion will be spent on domestic decommissioning over the coming 50 years. This is your chance to be at the forefront of this industry, as over half of the infrastructure decommissioning needs to start within the next decade. Future career opportunities will span across the Oil and Gas Division within the department, the broader public service and private sectors. Example roles include commercial advisor, financial manager, project manager, risk manager, policy officer, governance officer, environmental specialist, regulatory compliance officer, consultant, and technical specialist.
You will get exposure to cutting-edge technical expertise. You will be provided a supportive learning environment where you are encouraged and exposed to industry leading approaches used to retire one of Australia's unique offshore facilities, including understanding specialised equipment, materials handling, and innovative solutions to dispose of the asset. You will be given the opportunity to acquire expertise in environmental impact assessment, regulatory permitting and compliance, large scale program management, and complex procurement.
You will help to make a lasting impact. By decommissioning the Northern Endeavour, you will safeguard marine ecosystems, prevent potential environmental risks, and ensure a safe and effective decommissioning program. Join the team to make a significant and lasting impact and shape the future of decommissioning for Australia.
Our ideal candidate
We are looking for highly motivated self-starters that thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments and bring strong teamwork, problem-solving and analytical skills. Candidates with qualifications or work experience in government contract management, program or project management and/or the oil and gas sector are particularly encouraged to apply.
Our ideal candidates will have:
Our department has a commitment to inclusion and diversity, with an ambition of being the best possible place to work. This reflects the importance we place on our people and on creating a workplace culture where each and every one of us is valued and respected for our contribution. Our ideal candidate adds to this culture and our workplace in their own way.
What you will do
As a Project Delivery Manager at the Executive Level 2, you will:
Qualifications in a relevant discipline are highly desirable but not essential.
Eligibility
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.
Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
Notes
The department does currently offer flexible work opportunities for many roles. This vacancy can be based in Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne or Perth, although flexible or remote work arrangements may be considered. Please reach out to the contact officer to discuss this further.
