Our client is a leader in providing services to the maritime, military and resource sectors that delivers value for our customers (Commercial and Defence) through their innovative people, organisational agility and operational excellence.

Due to continued growth, they are now seeking an experienced

Draftsperson to join their professional high performing team which is based in Perth WA.


Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the development of 2D and 3D drawing artefacts to support ship design and build projects, maintenance of technical documentation systems, design data management and support to Production in build-phase.


Experience gained will be diverse, participating in Marine Ship repair, Ship build, Dredging and Disposal divisions, from tender stage to delivery.


Experience in Marine, Oil and Gas, Aeronautical, Aerospace, Robotics or similar would be ideal although industry background is not essential.


Duties include but not limited to:

  • 2D and 3D drawing to support design development and tendering efforts
  • 2D and 3D drawing to support production activities
  • Design and specification development for clientinitiated projects, internal equipment refurbishment or builds and providing design advice for inclusion in tender responses when required.
  • Maintain technical documentation systems, assist in developing standards and procedures
  • Design data management and manipulation
  • Support technical documentation provision in relation to projects (ILS, manuals, training packages, etc.)
  • NC Drawing creation
  • Proactively promoting quality, environmental responsibility & safety within the workplace, encouraging an outcome of Birdon being a place of work by choice.
  • Actively participating in the continued growth of the business.

Skills & Experience:


  • Tertiary qualifications at degree level in a marine, production, or engineering discipline is desirable but not essential
years' experience in a similar industry is ideal

  • Experience in Defence contracting preferred
  • Knowledge of marine engineering and design principles, systems, techniques, and industry standards is desirable but not essential
  • Efficient technical drawing and drafting skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Project
  • Excellent ability in CAD Programs
  • AutoCAD, Solidworks, NX CAD experience is essential
  • Excellent problemsolving skills to define, investigate and draw effective conclusions
  • Ability to prioritize work deadlines in an ever changing setting
  • Strong ability to develop technical documents, manuals and drawings
  • Excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills
