About the Role


Reporting to the Head of Media and Government Relations, this newly developed role is responsible for the design and delivery of The Lost Dogs' Home's advocacy strategy to mobilise the goverment and broader community to improve health, welfare, and outcomes for lost and abandoned animals.


Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking research and investigations to build an evidence base in support of our advocacy objectives.
  • Analysing policy to ensure LDH holds robust policy positions and recommendations in support of our advocacy objectives.
  • Assisting in drafting policy submissions, briefing papers and other publications that effectively communicate and promote our advocacy objectives.
  • Creating and implementing engagement plans to grow our advocacy followers and supporters using digital, social, and mainstream media mediums.
  • Leveraging headlines and identifying topics of interest that will get the attention of media, government and the public.
  • Building and maintaining resilient working relationships with media, key government, and other animal welfare agencies.
  • Developing engagement strategies to shift senior stakeholders in order to achieve the LDH's advocacy objectives.
  • Working closely with the wider Philantropy and Fundraising teams to embed lead generation activities into advocacy campaigns.

About you


You will bring exceptional interpersonal skills and the natural ability to build and maintain positive relationships with a range of stakeholders.

In addition, you will have acheived past success in running advocacy or stakeholder engagement campaigns that have resulted in positive action.


You will also have:

  • Experienced in building productive relationships with government agencies and representatives.
  • Experience in managing media, and media events.
  • Experienced, or thorough understanding of social media and social media strategies.
  • Experience in the community or charity sector, policy or advocacy, preferably within animal welfare.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and take personal responsibility for prioritising and managing workload.
  • A true passion and committment for LDH's vision, mission and values including a desire to improve health and welfare outcomes for lost and abandoned animals.
