The Opportunity


As part of the Technology Team, you will partner closely with business leaders and technology teams to deliver high quality, Delivery Lead services at pace to drive strategic outcomes for our customers.

Bupa is transitioning from Projects to Products, embracing this product-centric approach, the role requires a holistic view of product lifecycle, ensuring seamless integration from development to production support and incident management.


You will be accountable for leadership within an area of the Domestic Retail and Digital team, orchestrating the formation and efficient functioning of product-focused teams.

The role necessitates proactive and transparent communication with stakeholders, driving initiatives not only to meet timelines and budget constraints but also with an unwavering commitment to quality.


This role reports to the Head of Technology and requires a seasoned, self-reliant leader capable of steering a diverse team of Project Managers, Scrum Masters, and Delivery Managers.

You will be responsible for delivering multiple business initiatives, adhering to stringent timelines and quality standards in a dynamic and complex environment.

This includes comprehensive ownership of the product lifecycle, encompassing development, deployment, production support, and proactive incident management to ensure strategic outcomes for our customers.


You will be accountable for:

Business Outcomes
  • Engage business leaders and develop effective stakeholder relationships to understand and agree the business and customer needs and facilitate successful outcomes that meet those needs. Oversee the full product lifecycle, ensuring that the delivery aligns with the strategic vision and customer expectations.

Delivery Management
  • Transition from managing a portfolio of projects to overseeing a suite of products, with a focus on continuous delivery and improvement.

Governance & Control
  • Ensure appropriate governance for all initiatives is established inline with Bupa's Hub and Portfolio team requirements. Integrate production support and incident management into the governance framework, ensuring seamless transition from project delivery to ongoing product maintenance.

Program Initiation
  • Where a Product domain transition is not yet underway, work closely with the Sponsors, Owners and Workstream Leaders and Project Managers to scope and initiate new projects or programs.

Building, Coaching and Mentoring Effective Delivery Teams
  • Establish a mix of capabilities to support the design and execution of customer and business outcomes. Coach and support teams and individuals to effectively utilise their specialised skills.

Community and practice improvement
  • Openly promote knowledge sharing and collaboration practices which support improving capability and the overall experience of our people.

About You
To be considered for this role you will have:

  • Evidence of having built high-performing technology delivery teams.
  • Practical experience of operating hybrid delivery methods for technology development, including agile methodologies, waterfall delivery and lean.
  • Experience working with delivery and collaboration toolsets, especially work systems e.g. MS Azure DevOps, Atlassian, etc
  • Broad technology understanding of multiple platform types this role requires sufficient technical understanding of common approaches to enable effective collaboration with technical teams as well as business and delivery team members.
  • Excellent team and talent development skills, with evidence of having established high performing technology delivery teams, including recruitment and career development.
  • Experience working within matrix structures, with demonstrated ability to broker outcomes effectively and collaboratively with colleagues and peers.
  • Consulting skills are essential this role requires extremely strong influencing and brokering skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of standard project techniques including reporting, scheduling, dependency manager and milestone tracking techniques within a Program Delivery Office environment.
  • Negotiation Skills, proven ability to work with stakeholders and project sponsors to agree project scope that meets business needs.
