About the branch

The Public Law & Planning (PuLP) Branch of the VGSO provides litigation services and formal legal advice in multiple areas of law including but not limited to, administrative law, constitutional law, human rights and anti-discrimination law and planning, and environment and heritage law.

About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for an eager and enthusiastic Legal Assistant to join our Public Law and Planning Branch as part of the legal support team that provides comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to a team of solicitors.

You will assist a team of solicitors in preparing matters for hearings and help assist them run their practices efficiently and effectively.

No two days will be the same and you will enjoy a diverse workload and work collaboratively as part of a highly professional, busy and fast paced team.


Responsibilities:


  • Preparing correspondence and court documents drafting and typing
  • Amending & formatting documents
  • File management maintaining orderly, up to date legal files in electronic and hard copy format
  • Telephone assistance both incoming and screening
  • General administration photocopying, couriers, billing, relieving reception
  • Looking for ways to reduce the administrative workload of your solicitors
Skills and experience

  • Prior experience as a Legal Assistant, preferably within a litigation environment
  • Confident in providing high level legal administrative assistance to more than one solicitor
  • Strong understanding of litigation processes/procedures and court systems
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and an ability to conduct research using online databases and systems
  • Selfstarter who takes initiative and has the ability to operate autonomously
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to service excellence
