    Southern Tasmanian Regional Waste Authority

    Government - Local (Government & Defence)

    Southern Tasmanian Regional Waste Authority (STRWA) needs a Waste Program Manager. Is that you? This is a great opportunity if you're passionate about waste and sustainability. It's also a new position. So you'll have scope to shape the role too.

    Responsibilities

    In this role you will:

    • deliver key projects and initiatives in line with our Strategic Plan
    • manage contractors and consultants
    • work collaboratively with officers from member councils
    • add value to the work of member councils
    • engage with a range of stakeholders.
    • prepare contract specifications and manage procurement processes
    • research relevant issues
    • provide high-level, specialised advice to the CEO and Board
    • produce written materials including briefing notes, reports, submissions, speeches, project plans, grant submissions and best practice models
    • represent STRWA with advice on STRWA projects, positions and policies
    • negotiate positive outcomes for STRWA and local government
    • build and maintain good working relationships with other regional waste bodies, State Government employees, council officers and other stakeholders
    • communicate best practice waste management
    • facilitate understanding and behaviour change in the community
    • deliver other relevant duties as required.
    • four weeks' leave every year
    • extra leave between Christmas and New Year
    • days off in lieu

    Selection Criteria: Skills, knowledge and experience

    The successful candidate will be chosen against the following selection criteria:

    • Knowledge and understanding of waste management, the circular economy and resource recovery and the role of local government in responding to these issues.
    • Experience in implementing and managing projects and programs, including the ability to plan, organise and set priorities and achieve agreed outcomes to deadline.
    • Ability to develop policy and strategy around waste and the circular economy.
    • High-level interpersonal and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively liaise and negotiate with a range of stakeholders.
    • Excellent written communication skills and proven ability to produce clear, accurate, and concise resources, communications materials, reports and other documents.
    • Ability to work in a small team with a high degree of autonomy.
    • Current Driver's License.

    STRWA was established under the Local Government Act 1993 by the 12 Southern Tasmanian Councils. We coordinate local government resource recovery and management of solid waste in the southern region. We have a small – and growing team – of people committed to building a more sustainable future.
