About the role

We're not just about removing - we're building, we're connecting, we're revitalising, and the Risk team at LXRP are busier than ever.

We are on track to remove 110 level crossings across metropolitan Melbourne by 2030 and we also recently acquired the Geelong Fast Rail Project.

As such, we need a new Cost Controller to join our team delivering the Geelong Fail Rail Project
Reporting to the Senior Cost Controller, you'll be responsible for assessing, monitoring, controlling, and reporting all cost related activities throughout the project lifecycle, as well as;

  • Exercising professional independent judgement in supporting the Senior Cost Controller in the development, delivery and ongoing maintenance of cost controls, systems and processes, including developing time phasing budgets, reporting cost deviations, cash flow reporting, cost forecasting and change management.
  • Undertaking regular reviews and analysis of program performance including trend analysis in relation to cost and provide sound advice on corrective actions to ensure achievement of program and project objectives.
  • Inputting in the development of innovative cost control initiatives that improve cost control systems and processes
  • Negotiating with and influence key internal and external stakeholders to foster and maintain effective relationships relating to cost controls, whilst providing sound advice to managers and key stakeholders in relation to program and project management activities.
  • Supporting the coordination of the Month End Cost Reporting Cycle for responsible projects including the coordination the processing of monthly contractor's progress claims including checking compliance with the Contract and contribute to the maintenance the Contracts Variation Register
This is a 3-year fixed term, full time position, paying a salary between $103,920 and $125,735 plus superannuation.

The role will be performed in a flexible working arrangement with a combination of working from home and our office in the CBD.

About you
You are a self
- motivated, high performer with direct experience as a Cost Controller on major infrastructure projects, with exposure to a major transport infrastructure project highly desirable. You will have extensive prior experience in project controls, cost forecasting, cost estimating, quantity surveying, or project accounting.

As the ideal applicant you will demonstrate excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills, together with solid interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.


  • Demonstrated understanding of the maintenance of cost controls, systems and processes including the ability to develop, implement and maintain methods and procedures to improve financial estimating, monitoring and reporting of business performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess program and project performance and provide sound advice to key stakeholders on project management cost control activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake cost trend analysis and advise on corrective actions to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Effectively identify, build, and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification Engineering or Quantity Surveying will be highly regarded.

What next?

The Policy stipulates that, unless an employee is an Excepted Person within the meaning of the Policy, in order to attend an MTIA workplace the employee must hold 'up-to-date' vaccination status in accordance with ATAGI guidance, which for most includes their primary vaccination course and booster.
