The role

The Principal Briefings and Liaison Officer is part of a senior level liaison team in the Department of Health which is responsible for the management, coordination and facilitation of critical policy, service and operational issues within the department.

The role deals with emergent and potentially contentious issues concerning health consumers, clinical practice, health service delivery and related issues, and is a critical component of the conduit between Departmental officers, the Minister's Office, and the Office of the Director-General facilitating the provision of concise and accurate information in situations requiring a rapid response.


The role is responsible for facilitating and coordinating the flow of information between the offices of the Minister for Health and Ambulance Services and the Director-General,and Queensland Health, through liaison with relevant staff across the organisation for the purposes of critical issues management.

The role is expected to actively participate in the provision of whole-of-department responses to issues that require integrated and consistent information to be sourced and collated, and contribute to the effectiveness of Queensland Health's response to issues.

The position is responsible for providing high level written and verbal advice to Senior Executives, the Office of the Director-General and staff of the Office of the Minister for Health and Ambulance Services on contentious and emergent issues.

The Ministerial and Executive Services Unit (MESU) coordinates the flow of information across Queensland Health and externally to stakeholders in support of the Minister and Director-General.

MESU also manages critical and emergent issues, incoming health inquiries and correspondence, and customer feedback.


The Office of the Director-General is responsible for supporting the Director-General to coordinate the activities of the department at the highest level and ensure coordinated, comprehensive and accurate advice is available to the Director-General and Minister in relation to a range of executive government functions.
