The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

The Team


You will join a high performing team of leaders across the country that facilitates the readiness of the agency and the proper conduct of the election, upholding the Electoral Integrity Framework.

You will be based out of our Victorian State Office in the Melbourne CBD but manage and support a diverse and geographically dispersed network, working closely with our National Office and the other States and Territories.

The Opportunity


We are looking for a strong leader who is agile, self-motivated, and results-driven to manage state election planning, delivery, and evaluation.


You will be responsible for focusing strategically on the agency objectives to facilitate the adoption of best practice across the broader leadership network, while also leading your team in project management, financial, procurement and logistics to enhance both business as usual and election planning activities.


Prior to and during election time you will also be responsible for assisting with the mobilisation of over 80,000 temporary election workforce staff, including using your excellent leadership skills to support your staff to manage the significant number of employees in this surge workforce.


You will contribute to the development of team objectives for short term tasks and strategic planning for longer-term initiatives, including setting priorities for the work area, maintaining team cohesion, and ensuring quality of outputs for the work area.

Suitable applicants may be considered for future opportunities with the AEC in Victoria. Roles available will be dependent on the changing business needs and requirements of the AEC. Future opportunities may be filled on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis.

  • Any person who is, and seen to be active in political affairs, and intends to publicly carry on this activity, may compromise the strict neutrality of the AEC and cannot be considered.
