About the Role:


In this role you will:


  • Working under the direction of the Team Leader, Development and Earth Resources Advisory, monitor, prioritise and manage the referral workflow across the Development Advisory Unit to facilitate the delivery of EPA's function as referral authority for planning matters that have significant environmental impacts, and for earth resources projects under the Mineral Resources (Sustainable Development) Act 1990, within statutory timeframes.
  • Actively contribute to the development of a positive and high performing team culture, including by identifying and implementing opportunities to improve teamwork practices.
  • Support the provision of authoritative and timely advice on the environmental protection framework, including to Planning Panels and the Victorian Administrative Appeals Tribunal (VCAT).
  • As required based on prioritised demand, support the provision of statutory and strategic advice and support to planning officers within State and local government, including advice on statutory planning matters, structure or precinct plans, planning scheme amendments and planning policy or process to ensure the prevention of harm to the environment and human health is considered up front in land use planning.
  • Actively contribute to administrative aspects of EPA's planning function so that where EPA is not the primary decision maker, it is an influential, authoritative and trusted regulator which works to enhance environmental outcomes for the community.
  • Support and enable the continued development of EPA's planning function so that the primacy of prevention of harm is central to all statutory planning decisions.

Skills and Experience:


  • A relevant tertiary degree and/or post graduate qualifications is desirable.
  • Experience in providing business support is desirable, preferably in a planning environment.
  • Knowledge of the Victorian Planning System.
  • A broad understanding of environmental regulation as it relates to pollution and waste is desirable.
  • Demonstrated capability to deliver projects / programs to plan in a fastpaced environment, including the management of risks, prioritisation of tasks, monitoring of workflow; and contributing to the evaluation of project/program effectiveness; use of initiative to identify, communicate, and address delivery risks and opportunities to improve organisational outcomes.
  • A proven record of achievement in a similar role contributing to organisational excellence, high standards of performance and a positive organisational culture.
