Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide chemical analytical services in a high throughput forensic toxicology laboratory in an accurate, timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the discipline of analytical chemistry as it relates to forensic toxicology. With demonstrated abilities in a range of relevant procedures, techniques, and instrumentation and quality assurance systems.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to communicate (both orally and in writing) and work effectively with staff to meet client requirements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and a contemporary knowledge of NATA/ISO Accreditation/Certification.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • Appointment to this position requires a minimum mandatory tertiary qualification (Associate Diploma, Advanced Diploma or equivalent) involving the equivalent of 2 years full time study in science with a major emphasis in chemistry. Proof of qualification is to be provided to the employing service prior to the commencement of duty.
  • The applicants Academic Record must be supplied so that an assessment can be made of the chemistry content of the qualification.
  • The successful applicant will be expected to work with biological specimens such as, but not limited to blood, urine and oral fluid.
  • A criminal history check will be conducted on the recommended person for this job.
  • Please detail any visa conditions you may have if you are not a permanent resident of Australia.
  • It may be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment (Health Employment Directive No. 01/16): measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), varicella (chicken pox), pertussis (whooping cough), hepatitis B, tuberculosis.
  • It may be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against COVID19 (Health Employment Directive No. 12/21 and Queensland Health Human Resources Policy B70
