About the Role

This position can be based in either Sydney or Canberra and is a one year fixed-term contract.


The Policy & Advocacy unit develops medical and health policies, leads the College's advocacy initiatives, and provides advice on public policy so that the College is actively engaged in health policy debate and is positioned to influence medical and health policy in Australia and New Zealand, as it affects the Fellows and trainees, patients and communities that they serve.


Work as part of the Policy & Advocacy team sourcing, analysing and communicating quantitative and qualitative health data to support policy development and advocacy that reflect the priorities of the College and its members.

In this role, you will support data driven policy analysis, conduct economic and budgetary assessments and evaluate policy and advocacy activities on a wide range of pressing and evolving health policy issues.


You will also have the opportunity to work with Fellows and trainees to harness their expertise and experience to develop compelling, relevant and timely analysed health data sets for use in effective policy and advocacy.


Key Accountabilities

  • Identify, extract and analyse quantitative and qualitative health data from varying sources in line with specified policy and advocacy projects
  • Research the evidence, data, literature base and external commentary on various health related topics
  • Conduct economic and budgetary assessments of proposed policies or programs
  • Provide data analysis to assist the evaluation of policy and advocacy initiatives
  • Communicate data findings and insights to a wide audience, for example through insights briefs and data visualisations
  • Create and facilitate appropriate engagement with relevant stakeholders and initiatives across the College
  • Provide data analysis and insights to contribute to policies, position statements, papers, submissions and briefs to inform decision making and contribute to advocacy

Desired Skills and Experience:


What You Bring

  • A degree in epidemiology, economics, health economics, health data analytics, statistics or related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in performing quantitative data analysis
  • Experience in identifying, extracting and analysing health data sets using appropriate methods
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of critical thinking and analysis skills to identify data to respond to policy questions and derive knowledge from big health data
  • Experience in conducting economic and budgetary assessments of policies
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative approaches to research and evaluation as related to health and/or social policy and practice
  • Experience in communicating complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, engaging and actionable manner
