Role Details
***The Compliance Officer is a role within DHS Disability Services and is accountable to the Senior Compliance Officer for:
  • undertaking the role of an Authorised Program Officer (APO) within DHS Disability Services under the South Australian Restrictive Practices Authorisation scheme

Authorised Program Officers will:
- have the power to authorise level 1 restrictive practices for clients and may endorse the use of level 2 restrictive practices for the Senior Authorising Officers (SAO) authorisation
- monitor, analyse and review data of authorisations and provide reporting to management
- access and report accurate data into the South Australian Restrictive Practices ICT System (RPS)
- provide advice, information, and training to staff within DHS Disability Services regarding implementation of the Restrictive Practices Authorisation scheme
- fostering a culture of quality and safety to embed best practice principles within DHS Disability Services.

Key outcomes and accountabilities

  • Implementing requirements of the Disability Inclusion (Restrictive Practices - NDIS) Amendment Act 2021.
  • Implementing requirements of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission for Restrictive Practices and other practice and quality standards as directed.
  • Implementing requirements of the DHS Quality and Safeguarding Framework.
  • Providing advice, information, and training to DHS staff in relation to Restrictive Practices and the Restrictive Practices Authorisation Scheme.
  • Identifying risk and non-compliance issues that may have a significant impact on Disability Services and DHS and provide timely assistance to address such risks in collaboration with the designated area.
  • Maintaining accurate records and files in line with departmental, legislative and Commission requirements.

Note:

Any other responsibilities in line with the classification level of the role as assigned by Line Manager and/or the Department.

The responsibilities as specified above may be altered in accordance with the changing requirements of the role.

  • Must hold a current Australian issued driver's licence (equivalent to minimum class C).
  • Incumbent will be required to be up to date on their COVID19 vaccination status prior to engagement with DHS, unless it would be medically unsafe for the employee to do so.

Essential Qualifications

Tertiary qualification relevant to the functions of an Authorised Program Officer (APO) as outlined in the Disability Inclusion (Restrictive Practices-NDIS) Regulations 2021, such as allied health, nursing, education, or a disability-specific or behaviour-specific discipline.

About the Business


Disability Services provides valuable support to the South Australian community through supported independent living, Transition to Home, quality and clinical services, and the DHS Equipment Program.

As one of the largest providers, we supervise and help with everyday tasks to support people living with disability to live as independently as possible.

Our Transition to Home initiative facilitates the timely discharge of people with a disability from hospital into the community.


We also fund equipment and home modifications for South Australians who are otherwise unfunded for these services through Commonwealth options.

Equipment and home modifications, as well as the delivery, repair, maintenance and replacement of items, is funded by the DHS Equipment Program.
