About the Organisation
The Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) was established in 1973 to address the specific medical needs of
Victorian Aboriginal communities. 2023 marks as a landmark year as VAHS proudly celebrate it's 50-year of
providing a comprehensive range of medical, dental, and social services for our community.

As well as providing a variety of medical services, VAHS is committed to supporting the well-being of the
community through contributions to community events and activities. VAHS is also committed to assisting
research into the ongoing needs of the community.

About the Opportunity
The
SEWB Female Outreach Worker will work in a collaborative and adaptable role, directly with the Balit
Djerring Team members, under the direction and combined effort of the Balit Djerring Team Leader.

**Key Selection Criteria
**To be considered for this role you must have the following.

  • An Understanding of and Commitment to the Aboriginal community
  • Demonstrated ability to work with vulnerable client groups, including the provision of holistic support
services and addressing general client needs.

  • Experience that demonstrates your knowledge in effective case management.
  • Working knowledge of the mental health and drug and alcohol service system and the range of
treatment options available.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of an interprofessional team, including knowledge and
understanding of the roles and contributions of other professionals.

  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written skills with particular emphasis on interpersonal
communication skills, confidentiality and record keeping.

  • Demonstrated appreciation, understanding of, and sensitivity to, Aboriginal cultural values and
approaches to mental health and Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB)

orientations. Demonstrated understanding of a holistic approach to mental health

  • High level of interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to successfully engage with clients, their
carers, extended family members, members of the general community and other involved

professionals

  • Demonstrated capacity to work effectively as part of a transdisciplinary team
  • A professional standard of report writing and verbal and written skills.
  • Capacity to work under pressure and develop creative and flexible solutions to complex problems
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated understanding and commitment to the principles of equity, diversity
and occupational health and safety.

  • Fully approved Covid 19 Vaccinations (including booster)
