The role
Asset information systems (AIS) and spatial data forms a major information system in the business. It is fundamental to supporting our strategic priorities and objectives.

The user base is upward of 600 internal users and 8000 external users and business partners, and the systems managed are fundamental to the work for many staff and customers.

As the Spatial & Asset System Specialist you will be a highly specialised technical expert leading activities to assist in the development and maturity of Spatial Data Management, by employing technical skills and experience to embed effective data management inclusive of the following;

  • Administer and develop the AIS spatial systems, data, and users.
  • Plan design and develop the future spatial systems and solutions.
  • Provide expert advice regarding the spatial systems, solutions, data and strategy to the organisation.


The position undertakes expert analysis, development, support, system administration and management, helpdesk guidance and training for the organisation, business partners and external parties.


Who are you?
In order to flourish in this highly technical role, you will require the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Geospatial, Information Systems or Technology, Information Science, or Data Management
  • At least 710 years scientific/technical experience in similar role
  • Proven experience relating to data management of water and sewer assets with respect to digital data.
  • Extensive knowledge of information systems, particularly the operation and management of asset data with relevance to water, sewerage and recycled water assets
  • Extensive understanding of asset information systems and spatial systems inclusive of mapping and survey processes, geographical coordinate systems, the Victorian cadastre and spatial products.
  • Extensive understanding of the property creation and maintenance requirements systems and process.
  • Ability to troubleshoot data and system issues, identify root cause and propose solutions.
  • Ability to develop testing procedures and test plans to verify functionality has been delivered for new products or enhancements to existing systems.
  • Has an understanding of relational databases and SQL tools to query and analyse data.
  • Experience in system administration and the management of server environments.
  • Sound communication skills both written and verbal to be able to present and discuss complex technical information at all levels of business.
  • Ability to develop and implement processes that support spatial data maintenance
  • An understanding of IT development process and protocols.
  • The ability to develop productive working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
