Ambulance Victoria (AV) has an exciting opening for a Manager, Clinical Triage, to lead a dedicated and progressive team with a focus on leading clinical excellence and innovation in our secondary triage service.

This is a full-time 12 month fixed term opportunity to join the Operational Communications division which is responsible for coordinating and optimising state-wide emergency and non-emergency ambulance response, as well as the provision of patient care through Australia's largest secondary triage service.

Reporting to the Director, Operational Triage Services, and working closely with the Manager, Triage Operations, this position is accountable for the leadership of staff and achievement of clinical performance outcomes within Secondary Triage.

With a key focus on leading clinical standards and the development and implementation of clinical and educational programs.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:


  • Leading innovation and continuous review of clinical triage systems, processes and structures including education, training, and coaching
  • Providing day to day operational leadership and resourcing to meet demand, with a focus on clinical performance outcomes and leading strategies to achieve optimum clinical results.
  • Provide leadership support for the Patient Management function to achieve Best Care responses for frequent and complex callers.
  • Advising on and recommending strategies, improvements, and best practice in areas of service delivery, systems, performance, and clinical standards
  • Identifying, developing, and implementing mitigation strategies for risks related to clinical assessment, patient safety and patient experience
  • Provision of strong and effective leadership, coaching and mentoring to the clinical triage leadership team and personnel by fostering a performance based, collaborative culture with a commitment to world class clinical standards
  • Regularly monitor and assess the performance of direct reports to provide constructive feedback, highlighting development needs
  • Understand, observe and adhere to all safe working procedures and maintain safe work practices

About you
Suited to a highly driven and motivated individual who is passionate about improving service delivery and the successful applicant will possess:

  • Highly developed and contemporary clinical knowledge and skills
  • High level understanding of Secondary Triage practices and the whole of health system approach to the development and supplementation of health pathways
  • Current AHPRA Paramedic or Division 1 Nurse registration
  • Demonstrated previous experience in systems improvement
  • Extensive experience in leadership, management and supervision of clinically complex multidisciplinary teams, and an ability to provide clinically appropriate guidance while ensuring staff welfare and wellbeing support
  • The ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse cultures, interpersonal styles, abilities, motivation or backgrounds; to make the most effective use of capabilities, insights and ideas of all individuals
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to enable ideas and opinions to be expressed clearly and effectively, to enable effective interaction with staff at all levels within the organization including external stakeholders and members of the public, and the preparation of accurate and wellpresented documents and reports
  • Required to be available outside of ordinary working hours and frequently provide advice, support or intervene and manage emergency or time critical incidents or issues to the level of their authority (CAA2)
