    Aboutthe role

    This position plays a key role inproviding engineering advice and working collaboratively acrossCouncil to champion our purpose of Growing Townsville and todeliver the Corporate Plan in consultation with the TownsvilleCommunity. This position is accountable to the General ManagerEngineering and Asset Infrastructure Planning and will be focusedon the needs and aspirations of the Townsville community; growingand managing customer relationships, developing a culture ofcustomer-centricity and personal accountability; and reshaping howwe deliver services to maximise value.

    This position is responsible forplanning and modelling of transport networks (including roads,pathways, cycleways) to support growth in accordance with CorporatePlan objectives; identification of project scopes to upgrade thetransport networks; and undertaking analysis and concept design fortransport network upgrades to support trunkinfrastructure.

    This position is also responsiblefor providing expert professional engineering advice to Council andits stakeholders on the impact of development proposals on thetransport network including reviewing Traffic Impact Assessment(TIA) reports prepared by consultants.

    Our ideal applicant willhave:

    Level 6 Key Requirements– (Traffic and Infrastructure PlanningEngineer)

  • Bachelor's degree and full membership of Engineers Australia with post-nominals MIEAust.
  • Minimum of 3 years of postgraduate experience in the civil engineering industry.
  • Knowledge of local government functions, including development assessment, strategic planning and engineering operations.
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant codes and guidelines relating to traffic and transport planning including Austroads guides, Transport and Main Roads Guides, relevant Australian Standards, and the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Experience in the use of computerised traffic and transport models, ideally Aimsun and SIDRA.
  • Knowledge of growth modelling.
  • Experience in the interpretation of infrastructure planning reports including the ability to interpret and prepare technical reports.
  • Demonstrated sound interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills and the ability to work as a member of both specialist and multidisciplinary teams, combined with the ability to establish and maintain working relationships with staff as well as external customers.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills, along with competent use of Microsoft Office products especially Excel and Word to a high level and ideally MS Project. Skills and experience with ArcGIS in an infrastructure planning context would be desirable.
  • Current Queensland "C" Class driver's licence.
  • Additional Level 7 KeyRequirements – (Senior Traffic and Infrastructure PlanningEngineer)

  • Registration to the Board of Professional Engineers in Queensland (RPEQ)
  • Minimum of 5 years of postgraduate experience in the civil engineering industry.
  • High level project management skills including strong ability to manage own workload and priorities.
  • Additional Level 8 KeyRequirements – (Principal Traffic and Infrastructure PlanningEngineer)

  • Registration as a Senior Road Safety Auditor recognized by the Department of Transport and Main Roads
  • Minimum of 7 years of postgraduate experience in the civil engineering industry.
  • Advanced specialist knowledge of transport infrastructure charging and associated legislation.
