6 months, with 6 month extension

The Safety Advisor is responsible for the development and coordination of our client's Compliance and Assurance program, maintaining alignment with AS/NZS ISO 45001 and AS/NZS ISO 9001 as well as advising on and supporting Occupational Safety and Health requirements.

The Safety Advisor also ensures that operational interface arrangements are satisfactorily implemented.

This role will undertake regular site inspections, Contractor audits and reports on Contractor compliance to safety requirements and specifications, with a focus towards public safety, occupational safety and health, construction safety, traffic management and rail safety.

Core duties and responsibilities

Integrated Management Systems Development and Maintenance

Assists in the development and maintenance of the client's Integrated Management System to align with legislative and ISO requirements.
Implements, monitors and reviews corporate OSH requirements, including developing operational strategies and procedures.
Provides professional advice in relation to OSH matters.
Assists in the development and review of OSH plans and procedures.
Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments in the area of Occupational Safety and Health and related management system elements.
Prepares communications, such as alerts, as required, to provide specific advice to projects.

Construction Safety Management and Stakeholder Liaison

Undertakes worksite safety inspections, interfacing with Contractor representatives to address issues found at site, and escalating to Management if required.
Identifies safety risks and innovations associated with infrastructure construction and proactively communicates the findings to Contract Managers across multiple projects.
Assists Contractors in project safety management and work process improvement.
Coordinates and liaises with stakeholders for Contract works to ensure that all work groups are aware of and comply with procedures when conducting work.
Provides guidance on interfaces between separate work parties or Contractors on the same site.
Provides guidance on Safe Working requirements for employed consultants intending to visit worksites.

Assurance and Investigation

Coordinates the development and monitoring of the Audit Schedule.
Conducts safety audits on internal processes and work sites, prepares audit reports and monitors progress on actions, preparing progress summaries for management.
Identifies changes to specification and work process, and facilitates the necessary management of change processes.
Inspects Contractor safety records and compliance with requirements, providing reports for areas of improvement.
Reviews and assesses safety related aspects of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), identifies where safety related 'hold points' are detailed and ensures that actions at the respective hold point occur.
Conducts inspections for the release of safety related hold points as identified in the contract and reports noncompliance with required hold point actions.
Reviews contractors' safety documentation and provides feedback on adherence and compliance with client requirements.
Undertakes and/or oversees investigation of accidents/incidents and reports on issues and recommendations.
Assists in maintaining project records relating to the safety requirements of contracts and compiles periodic safety performance reports.

Continual Improvement

Identifies opportunities and improvements by producing and analysing project statistics relating to safety, in the delivery of projects, process and procedures and makes recommendations to management.
Provides performance reports to the Project Managers including the analysis of all sources of deficiencies, incidents and other project objectives, targets, Key Performance Indicators and related programs.

Risk Management

Responsible for the development of a work schedule for the monitoring and review of business, project and activity risks.
Participates in risk assessment workshops and provides advice on requirements to satisfy client/customer requirements.
Coordinates the Divisional risk management program to achieve compliance with the project's Risk Management Plan.
Coordinates and facilitates the ongoing review of risks and risk Treatment Action Plans.
Facilitates risk assessment workshops and the compiling of risk assessment reports.
Participates in the ongoing review of the Risk Management Policy in line with best practice developments.
