    Company Description

    About us

The School of Health Sciences and Social Work is known for innovation and excellence in health education, research, clinical practice, human services and social work. We focus on addressing many of the health challenges facing people and have extensive ties to local, national and international communities. We are looking for qualified and motivated individuals for PhD scholarship positions. We have a strong focus on innovation, interdisciplinarity, translation and impact, and we contribute to a wide range of partnerships and engagements with clinical, government, NGO, industry and community stakeholders. The School has significant research expertise in the areas of disability and rehabilitation, including multiple researchers in centres such as GCORE and The Hopkins Centre.

    Job Description

Approximately 15,000 Australians live with a spinal cord injury. The total costs of spinal cord injury in Australia is estimated to be $3.7 billion per year. Recent advances in rehabilitation technologies have shown great promise for restoration of voluntary movement in individuals with spinal cord injury. However, the transition of these technologies from the laboratory to clinical practice is limited. To resolve these issues, individuals with spinal cord injury and rehabilitation stakeholders must be included in the technology development process.

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about bridging the gap between research and practice, in particular working collaboratively with individuals with a spinal cord injury and rehabilitation stakeholders. Candidates will learn and apply skills including user-centred design, co-design, usability testing and/or integrated knowledge translation. Candidates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply, however knowledge and skills relating to: rehabilitation; allied health; engineering; industrial design; qualitative research design; and interdisciplinary research will be highly regarded.

This scholarship is housed within the BioSpine research project that is aiming to develop technologies to restore mobility and sensation for individuals with spinal cord injury. The candidate will work with a interdisciplinary team of researchers and clinicians and will have the opportunity to participate in the development of cutting-edge technology.

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about technology in rehabilitation, specifically user-centred design, co-design, usability testing and/or implementation science.

    Qualifications

The selection of applicants for the award of higher degree research scholarships at Griffith University involves consideration of your academic merit and research background. A successful candidate is expected to hold a bachelor's degree with first-class honours or a master's degree.

    • Expressions of interest are welcome from domestic and international applicants.
