Staff Specialist in Geriatric Medicine

Community and Aged Care Services - Greater Newcastle Sector

Fixed term temporary part time 1.0 FTE (40 hours per week)

Immediate start until July 2023

About the role:

The position will provide consultant services in Geriatric Medicine to any, or all, of the following:

  • Geriatric Medicine consultations in public hospitals
  • Management of inpatients in acute or subacute beds within public hospitals
  • Community clinics in Geriatric Medicine located at: Nelson Bay, Raymond Terrace, Wallsend, Windale, Toronto, Newcastle, Scone, Singleton, Maitland, Kurri Kurri and Morisset these clinics may include telehealth consultations
  • Aged care facilities and home visits in Maitland and Upper Hunter Regions
  • Working across multiple hospitals within Hunter New England Local District including: John Hunter Hospital, Belmont District Hospital and Maitland Hospital
  • Have Geriatric Medicine Specialist registration with AHPRA and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (Geriatric Medicine)
  • Demonstrated recent clinical experience at consultant level in Geriatric Medicine
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  • Participate in the on call roster for Geriatric Medicine
  • Act as team leader and team member of appropriate multidisciplinary teams and provide medical representation within Aged Care Assessment Teams
  • Ensure appropriate arrangements are made for patients on discharge from hospital to maximise continuity of care and good health outcomes

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA).

Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.

New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations.
