What is the role?


Applications are sought from suitably qualified, professional, enthusiastic and committed applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Support Officer - Freedom of Information (FOI) in the Commercial, Governance and Information Law Branch within AFP Legal located in Canberra.


AFP Legal is the AFP's internal legal practice, delivering legal services across the wide spectrum of AFP activities both domestically and overseas.

AFP lawyers work in an exciting, dynamic and intellectually challenging environment providing legal advice in areas including criminal law, information law, national security law, dispute resolution, administrative law, employment law, commercial law, and governance.

What will you do?

A Freedom of Information Support Officer role working in the Commercial, Governance and lnformation Law Branch in AFP Legal assists AFP Legal and AFP business through the provision of a variety of administrative functions


This work may include:
Managing FOI databases and recording information in the database;
Record keeping, file management and reporting requirements;
Drafting routine correspondence in relation to FOI requests and developing a practical understanding of the administrative FOI system;
Compilation of documents;
Undertaking some minor project and research work to support AFP business;
Assisting professional staff on specific matters as required; and
Assisting to meet legislative, external and AFP corporate obligations.
Essential Requirements


All applicants must:

Have a Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
Strong administrative skills, including the ability to gain broad knowledge of FOI processes.
Flexibility and adaptability with proven ability to multitask and prioritise.
Ability to work to tight deadlines.
Desirable Requirements

The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:

Formal qualifications are not required for this role, however, previous work experience within a FOI or Legal area is highly desirable.
