About the Role
This role reports to the Director of MAPU.
This position fulfils accountabilities and responsibilities in accordance with Metro South's purpose and objectives.

  • Provides in accordance with the philosophy of PAH MAPU and HITH services, a high quality, effective and efficient clinical care to the acutely unwell members of the community presenting to the MAPU, HITH and RAS, both via ED and also directly from General Practitioners.
  • Provides professional leadership within MAPU (& HITH) and provide training, education and supervision to registrars, junior medical staff and other healthcare members of the MAPU and HITH team.
  • Participates in afterhours and oncall staff specialist roster in Acute General Medicine.
  • Specific duties may involve ward rounds, outpatient services (including Telehealth and outreach services, if appropriate), procedural work, multidisciplinary team meetings and collaboration with other medical teams or other professional streams.
  • Enable clinical pathways and early discharge procedures, including CLD (Criteria Led Discharge).
  • Ensure appropriate handover of patients, as needed.


The Princess Alexandra Department of MAPU is focussed upon meeting the needs of our patients populations using contemporary and evidence based models of care.

Our aim is to deliver highly effective and efficient acute medical care to mee the varied needs of our patients.

MAPU has 32 Acute Care beds with telemetry facilities for 20 beds.

MAPU is accredited with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians as a high acuity unit for Advanced Trainees in General and Acute Care Medicine (Core Acute rotation).
