Exciting opportunity for an experienced climate risk measurement specialist to join our ESG Risk Team

  • Permanent fulltime opportunity
  • Sydney or Melbourne based position

How will I help?

This is a key role which will support the development and implementation of improved climate risk management capability across the Group.

In this role you will ensure a market-leading approach is in place to analyse the potential impacts and opportunities of climate change (physical, transition, etc), using climate scenario analysis to deliver insights that inform strategy and risk management decision-making.

You will work closely with stakeholders across the Group and external partners in helping to ensure climate-related risks and opportunities are understood, supported by a fit-for-purpose climate scenario analysis capability.

You will be accountable for providing expert advice to stakeholders across the first and second line of risk management.

Additional accountabilities include:

  • Support the development and execution of climate risk measurement priorities: work with colleagues across Risk, Business Units and Group Sustainability to understand the risks and opportunities of climate change
  • Climate analysis: drawing on multiple analytical techniques to translate global climate scenarios into potential impacts to the Group, and drawing out implications

For example:

  • Climate scenarios: Lead the analysis of macroeconomic and weather scenarios (for example, published by IPCC, IEA, NGFS) to provide insights on their use and implications for the Australian economy
  • Acute physical risk and opportunities: Analyse the risks to physical assets (e.g., mortgages) arising from an increased frequency and/or severity of extreme weather events
  • Chronic physical risk and opportunities: Analyses the impact of longterm changes in weather patterns on economic activity (e.g., agricultural productivity)
  • Transition risks and opportunities: assess the impact to credit portfolios of changes in policies, technologies and consumer preferences
  • Governance: Communication outcomes and insights of climate analysis with relevant risk committees and forums.
  • Support the delivery of regulatory and industry scenario analysis exercises
  • Produce insights to be included in public climate disclosures
