About the Business Unit

The Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM) is a multi-specialty forensic medical and scientific service delivery Victorian government organisation with a unique range of information management requirements.

The VIFM Act creates a joint position of Director of the VIFM and Professor of the Department of Forensic Medicine (DFM) at Monash University.

The Director/Professor is responsible for the strategic direction and activities of the DFM, which is housed at the VIFM and operates under the governance of the Monash University Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.

This position is within the Corporate Services and Development Division.

About the Role

The Information Governance and Strategy Lead works across the organisation and is accountable for the design and development of The VIFM's information management framework and implementation strategy, aimed to achieve best practice information management which complies with the requirements of the Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner (OVIC) through the implementation of the Victorian Protective Data Security Standards (VPDSS) in the context of the VIFM's services of forensic medical and scientific services and tissue banking.

The Information Governance and Strategy Lead will work closely with key stakeholders to design a fit for purpose information management system and implementation strategy that is compliant with the VPDSS, VIFM's accreditation and licensing requirements and best practice.

The Information Governance and Strategy Lead will coordinate information governance activities, developing and implementing information policies, standards and work practices, and commissioning and managing the information management system.

You will also work closely with Information Asset owners, the senior management team and stakeholders to provide advice support in order to improve the organisations relationship and understanding of accountability with information management.

Some of your duties may include;

  • Active participation in the implementation and day to day activities required for effective information management processes.
  • Designing, developing and gaining endorsement for Information Governance and Management Frameworks, standards and processes to support effective and VPDSS compliant day to day operations which also help us to meet our strategic objectives.
  • Developing and leading the implementation of strategies, such as the Information Management Strategy for effective compliance to VPDS Standards which includes understanding our current state to be able to provide tangible and realistic actions.
About You

  • Use this unique opportunity to combine your information management knowledge and analytical and strategic thinking skills with your curiosity to understand the unique nature of the VIFM to create an effective and compliant information management system (including framework and strategy).
  • You will be required to engage and work with all departments and levels of operations and management. Your curiosity to understand and openness to learn along with your proactive attitude towards sound information management practices will be well utilised to influence the development of the VIFM's information management maturity.
  • A tertiary qualification in information management or a related field
  • Strong ability to interpret, consolidate and integrate multiple complex information management requirements to design a fit for purpose VIFM information management framework and provide advice to senior management on its practical implementation.
  • Strong understanding of information management requirements as articulated by the Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner requirements with a clear vision for how the VPDSS can be practically adopted in a government agency like the VIFM.
  • Ability to navigate complex environments with a degree of operational acumen to ensure that initiatives support continued operational effectiveness whilst having a positive effect on information management compliance.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills suited to deliver effective outcomes and influence the adoption of information management activities.
  • Strong in both analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Selfdriven, effective planning, time management and organisational skills.
