ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:


We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager Community Development to oversee a broad range of community development initiatives, programs and projects that seek to support the community sector across Cumberland.

In this position, you will oversee the management and administration of grants programs, identify and deliver capacity building activities with the local community sector and manage the team to improve service delivery coordination.


With a focus on strategy and planning, you will be responsible for develop and implementing business plans including Cumberland's Reconciliation Action Plan, Domestic Violence Action Plan and the Community Safety and Crime Prevention Strategy.

You will have the opportunity to develop, manage and review the annual budget and provide leadership, facilitate and monitor efficient achievement of Community Development outcomes and projects.


The successful applicant will require:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience in a discipline relevant to the functions of community development, capacity building, social sciences or a related discipline
  • Class C drivers licence
  • Working with Children Check
  • Experience at a management level, including business planning, performance management, financial and budget management
  • Proven record of achievement in establishing and implementing innovative services and programs
  • Demonstrated ability to establish partnerships with business, community organisations and government agencies to achieve community outcomes
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including high level experience in overseeing complex Council wide community engagement, social policy/planning projects
  • Proven ability in leading multidisciplinary teams and motivating and coaching staff to create a culture of high performance and strong customer focus
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing the highest quality of external customer service and ability to resolve conflict
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision
- making skills, as well as high initiative, including ability to initiate and respond effectively to change

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication (written and oral) skills and the ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders
  • Ability to manage multiple complex priorities and projects.

Position information:
This is a permanent, full-time position, working a 70 hour fortnight from Monday to Friday.


This role is predominantly located at Council's Merrylands office, with frequent travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council's work locations.


Salary information:
The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 17 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $3,030.91 to $3,485.55 per week, plus 10.5% superannuation
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
