The National Forecaster Development Group supports the Bureau's weather forecasting programs through the training and assessment of professional staff.

The Group is principally responsible for the development and delivery of specialised training and assessment for forecasting staff but also contributes to other BMTC courses such as the Graduate Diploma in Meteorology course and the Introduction to Meteorology course.

An industry accredited adult education qualification, equivalent to at least Certificate 4 level is currently a requirement of undertaking training and assessment activities.

Holding a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment is an advantage, but if not already held provision will be made to obtain the qualification soon after appointment.

A Graduate Diploma in Meteorology or a comparable overseas qualification is also a requirement.
