Principal Heritage
Fortescue Centre:
Fortescue's Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster:
Monday - Friday
In collaboration with the Heritage Manager - Heritage Assessment and Approvals.
The Principal Heritage is responsible for providing strategic direction to the business and heritage team, in relation to the management and safe delivery of Fortescue's cultural heritage and social surroundings requirements.
You will also be required to provide technical and quality assurance to a team of Advisors, as well as support to a remote field team.
Integral to the role is to oversee social surrounds and heritage engagement with Fortescue's native title partners, Traditional Custodians, and their representatives, and establishing appropriate management frameworks to enhance positive and mutually beneficial relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement Cultural Heritage Approvals Strategies that anticipate and respond to shifting regulatory and societal expectations in relation to Aboriginal Cultural Heritage
- Earlystage assessment of Cultural Heritage risks within new tenements and development areas
- Ensure approvals are sought in a timely manner and in accordance with business requirements and relevant State and Commonwealth Aboriginal Cultural Heritage legislation
- Develop and maintain an Obligations Register, that is transparent within the business
- Leading a team of Heritage professionals team to ensure work quality, schedule, and values expectations are met, as well as being responsible for the recruitment, onboarding and mentoring a team of Senior Heritage and Heritage Advisors.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Tertiary qualifications in archaeology or anthropology, or in a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience working in cultural heritage within mining or energy sectors with experience as a team lead or in an influencingwithoutauthority role.
- Experience in developing cultural heritage management plans and / or risk assessments would be viewed highly regarded
- Knowledge of WA and Commonwealth legislation in relation to Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management.
- Working knowledge of_ the Environmental Protection Act 1986_.
- Highly developed administrative and computer skills in the Microsoft Office suite and spatial management software (Arc GIS or similar). Ability to learn and use new software quickly and effectively.
