The Opportunity


Housing Choices Australia (HCA) is seeking a General Manager to lead the Specialist Housing Group (SHG), a unique housing arm of HCA that provides Housing solutions to people with complex disabilities seeking or residing in Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA).


The role will be primarily responsible for the leadership and expertise in Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) services and maintaining a strong brand presence in the NDIS space.


The role will achieve this by utilising an empowering style of leadership, coaching, and mentoring, together with instilling a positive team culture that supports the current team in growing and being highly effective in supporting our clients and achieving business outcomes.


Reporting to the Executive General Manager Customer and Community Services, the role will be to work closely with the Executive Management Team to implement the Housing Choices SDA Strategy and, as a senior leadership position, model behaviour that exhibits Housing Choices' values in action.

You will have significant experience and expertise working with government and non-governmental bodies in the NDIS and SDA space. You will have exceptional people management skills to lead and mentor to guide your team.

You will be a tactful communicator and be effective and strategic in engaging and managing key stakeholder relationships, providing leadership that develops capability and engenders a culture of alignment and excellence.

The position is a full-time ongoing role based in Melbourne (close to Melbourne Central station).

Skills and Experiences:

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in a community services field or business administration field or similar, or substantial leadership in community services
  • Knowledge of underpinning the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and other relevant declarations.
  • Knowledge in NDIS principles, NDIS Code of Conduct. NDIS Practice Standards and NDIA Operational Guidelines.
  • Experience, or ability to acquire skills quickly, in preparing business plans and executing strategy.
  • Experience in leading teams and coaching, mentoring and motivating staff to achieve team outcomes.
  • Experience working directly with people with disability with demonstrated awareness of the key issues faced by people with disabilities relating to housing.
  • Experience developing and implementing plans and actions to achieve quality, client, people, operational, financial and risk targets.
Desirable

  • Proven experience and successful track record in a comparable role or discipline(s) in the disability services, private housing sector or transferable sector.
