Hawkesbury High School is a comprehensive, co-educational high school, located in a semi-rural setting in the Hawkesbury District in Northwest Metropolitan Sydney.

The school has 450 students in Years - 12, including 14% Aboriginal students.

The school has strong connections with the local community and it has a strong focus on academic, vocational and wellbeing programs.

The school enjoys a strong and sustainable learning partnership with local primary schools.

Selection Criteria:

Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria,

  • Capacity to work collaboratively as a highly visible member of a leadership team that supports the needs of a diverse range of students, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead colleagues to develop teaching strategies with a focus on innovation, pedagogical change and futurefocussed learning.
  • Evidence of highly developed emotional intelligence, communication and interpersonal skills to lead and support colleagues to review the effectiveness of their professional practice.

General Selection Criteria:


  • Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  • Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  • Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  • Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
