About Research, Innovation and Commercialisation

Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (RIC) is the central facilitator of research funding in the University, taking advantage of the full diversity of research funding opportunities.


The
Office of Research Ethics and Integrity (OREI) provides expert advice, guidance and training to facilitate the ethical and responsible conduct of research.

We partner with Chancellery and Academic Divisions to support multiple key areas of governance and oversight including:

research integrity, human and animal research ethics, gene technology, biosecurity and biosafety, animal welfare, export controls, autonomous sanctions, quality assurance and clinical trials.


About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital leadership role, promoting a culture of care and a program-wide approach in supporting the delivery of high-quality research and teaching using animals and overseeing the Institution's program of veterinary care.

You will form effective relationships with your stakeholders and influence outcomes through establishing credibility as a trusted advisor and drive continuous improvement in service delivery.


Further responsibilities include:

  • Contributing to policies and standards relating to the care and use of animals in research and teaching.
  • Coordinating, developing and delivering ongoing training and education relevant to animal care and use for scientific purposes.
  • Monitoring, analysing and reporting on risks and trends within the Animal Care and Use Program, including root cause analysis.

About You

Your exceptional interpersonal and communication skills enable you to build effective, trusted relationships with your stakeholders and engage a wide range of audiences to effectively convey complex information.

You have highly developed organisational and analytical skills with the ability to approach challenges with maturity and reason while continuously managing competing priorities to ensure service is delivered to a high standard.


You will also have:

  • A degree in Veterinary Science or related discipline and/or relevant experience and knowledge of animal care and its use in a research context.
  • Extensive experience leading and developing a team, with demonstrated ability to communicate key strategic objectives and support staff to achieve organisational goals in a large and complex environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of animal experimentation and animal ethics, and regulation of the use of animals in a research setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering strategic projects, including the development and review of policies, guidelines, procedures, and processes.
  • To ensure the University continues to provide a safe environment for everyone, this position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check._
