About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, Student Experience, The Student Engagement Coordinator is primarily responsible for developing communications and engagement strategies to foster a strong student experience for all Faculty of Science students.


The Student Engagement Coordinator will play a key role within the Student and Academic Services team in supporting all student-facing communication initiatives for the Faculty of Science throughout the academic year.

A key component of this will focus on establishing a communication and engagement strategy to build and maintain student participation, particularly amongst under-represented student cohorts.

Where possible, the Student Engagement Coordinator will co-create with students and use effective program evaluation strategies to make evidence based decisions.


The position will work closely and proactively with colleagues across the Faculty's Student and Academic Services portfolio, School academic support officers, and central University teams to provide timely advice and support for communications and take a lead in the creation of key messages as well as development and maintenance of all communications channels.


Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the development and maintenance of all studentfacing communication channels, particularly websites, newsletters and social media
  • In collaboration with students and SAS team members, developing a faculty specific student communications plan designed to build engagement, improve participation and connect with the broader student cohort
  • Supporting the team to improve student engagement communication practices and processes, with a commitment to evidence based practices and continuous improvement
  • Consistently analysing information and data to facilitate effective reporting and feed into enhancement of student engagement activities

About You

You will have a high level of interpersonal and liaison skills, with demonstrated initiative and an ability to effectively liaise with a wide range of people and build strong professional networks.

You will possess excellent information technology skills, including experience with web content management systems and social channels.

You will have a high level of written and oral communication skills with excellent attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to develop quality content.


You will also have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification, and experience within a communications focused role, or an equivalent combination of relevant work experience, education and/or training
  • Demonstrated experience in the development and implementation of communication initiatives and solutions across traditional and/or digital channels
  • Ability to maintain a flexible and proactive approach to tasks within a busy work environment and the ability to organise work priorities, multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
  • To ensure the University continues to provide a safe environment for everyone, this position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check._
