General Description of Role


Maintenance, installation and repair of mechanical equipment and systems relating to production lines, site utilities and associated supporting assets in line with company policies and procedures and in compliance with the applicable regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities and Activities


The core responsibility of the Maintenance Technician - Mechanical is to ensure the maintenance of process and mechanical systems within production and site utilities equipment in an efficient and effective manner.

The above core responsibility is further complemented by the following key requirements;

  • Demonstrated ongoing continuous commitment to HSE principles and compliance with Company safety lockout and tagout procedures
  • Ensure the safety of the machine, line and equipment
  • Report all potential hazards and incidents in a timely manner
  • Use equipment safely and as per instruction and wear protective clothing and equipment as required
  • Perform high precision trade skills using various materials, operation of electrical test equipment and specialised techniques
  • Attend breakdowns and provide assistance to other maintenance staff with breakdowns and general factory maintenance
  • Undertake specialised mechanical maintenance tasks associated with can and bottle filling and can seaming
  • Undertake appropriately allocated planned Preventative Maintenance (PM) activities and record details of any variances or annomolies within the work order documentation
  • Maintain technical documentation pertinent to the asset and work areas
  • Create maintenance system requests for any new or required maintenace corrective actions, to be further assessed by the Reliability team for opertions priority
  • Account and record shiftly work activities into designated Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or system on a daily basis that includes related asset, maintenance type, utilised parts and typical trade duration
  • Maintain personal and work area hygiene in accordance with Company policy
  • Assist in the training of production personnel in operation of production equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Continuously improve own capabilities through demonstrated commitment to personal development
  • Communicate with suppliers, contractors and other supporting resources to fault find and solve equipment issues
  • Contribute to Continuous Improvement (CI) and Project department meetings and programs to provide solutions or participate in planned corrective actions
  • Document designated work practices for the purpose of future work method statements or preventative and corrective maintenance activities
  • Oversee designated contractors that are supporting preventative, corrective or reactive maintenance activities on site
  • Support potential out of hours line support and breakdown requirements outside of your normal shift pattern
  • Perform other duties as required or directed.

Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Ability to read and interpret process, electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems
  • Basic knowledge of process instrumentation such as flow meters, pressure transmitters etc.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Pragmatic, handson approach, problem solver
  • Ability to work under pressure.

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Previous experience in FMCG and/or Manufacturing/Production Facility
  • Exposure to Food/Beverage desirable
  • Disconnect/Reconnect Licence desirable
  • Mechanical Trade Certificate III in Engineering.
