We now have an exciting opportunity available for an Apprentice Mechanical Technician to join our Operations & Maintenance team, based at our Thomastown site on a permanent full time basis.

You will be an integral part of the team, learning from our highly skilled tradespeople.


Your apprenticeship will consist of 2-4 years of both formal classroom training and onsite work experience and once completed you will receive a Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (fitter).

Once qualified, there may be the opportunity for permanent employment and further development of your career with APA. Your TAFE fees will be covered by APA, and all equipment and PPE will be provided. You just need to bring your enthusiasm, willingness to learn and be part of a collaborative team.


As an APA Apprentice you will:

  • Cut holes into live pipelines in a controlled manner (hot tapping), to gain entry inside the pipe
  • Use techniques such as welding to stop the flow of gas in a main pipeline in order to complete maintenance and or new repair work.
  • Grease valves to ensure functional operation for isolation purpose and pressure control situations.
  • Decommission and commission gas infrastructure using purging and flaring techniques.
  • Complete installations, fault find, repair and rebuild/overhaul of plant components.
  • Inspect and observe, learn and understand plant or asset functions.
  • Learn the safe and correct operation of machinery and use of hand and power tools.
  • Conduct safework risk assessments.
  • Attend TAFE and complete the required coursework.

Requirements:


  • A year 12 school leaver or a mature applicant
  • Able to listen carefully, follow directions and have a willingness to work hard in a team environment
  • Able to work in confined spaces and to climb stairs
  • Licensed to drive a motor vehicle
  • An enthusiastic and dedicated learner, with a passion for developing your skills and committed to building your career as a tradequalified Apprentice Mechanical Technician
  • Available to commence your career with APA 5 February 2024, and learn all of the above
