Description
The Horticulture Apprentice assists the Horticulture team in creating and maintaining an environment in which services are delivered allowing families and stakeholders to connect with a strong sense of place.
Position objectives
- Complete Certificate III in Horticulture (Parks and Gardens)
- Develop a range of park and horticultural maintenance skills
- Within a team, employ learnt skills to undertake specialised garden maintenance that ensures sustainable, high quality presentation of GMCT sites
Key responsibilities
- Under supervision, undertake general horticultural duties utilising plant, equipment and tools provided by GMCT
- Lawn and garden maintenance to defined standards
- Weeding, pruning, digging, raking, mulching, planting, spraying, hedging, edging, blowing, reticulation, mowing in accordance with established programs
- Tractor trailer operation
- Perform prestart checks on all equipment/machinery to be used for the day
- Under supervision, assist with the routine maintenance of assigned plant and equipment to ensure it is in good working order
- Report any mechanical faults of equipment or vehicles to the Supervisor Burial Operations
- Work as part of a team
- Ensure all work is undertaken in a safe manner and in accordance with GMCT's service standards
- Under supervision, use herbicides and pesticides in a safe manner, in accordance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements, industry best practice and GMCT policy
- Maintain accurate records as required
- Complete study and training associated with the Certificate III Horticulture (Parks and Gardens) program.

Requirements:
