What is the role?


Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be considered for the role of Creative Studio Assistant Manager within the AFP's Corporate Communications section.


Corporate Communications is responsible for delivering professional communication solutions to support and enable our members to deliver maximum impact to the criminal environment.


As the Creative Studio Assistant Manager, you will help manage a diverse team of a range of in-house and external graphic designers, video/photography production specialists and animators.

You will be primarily responsible for providing advice to clients, reviewing creative briefs, scheduling work coming in and out of the Studio, monitoring correspondence, responding to enquiries, and providing peer reviews and quality assurance before deploying assets.


With an understanding and appreciation of the creative and content creation process, you will need to ensure the team has the time and information required to provide high quality visual communications solutions on behalf of the AFP.

What will you do?


We are looking for a highly organised cool-headed and client service focused individual who can help us manage a dynamic and high paced in-house creative studio.


In this role you will:

Liaise with a variety of stakeholders on photographic, video and design requests.
Have the ability to understand desired outcomes for creative and operational projects and provide advice in a timely manner.
Be responsible for liaison with clients and ensuring technical experts have all the assets and details required.
Allocate new jobs and lead associated administrative and reporting requirements.
Be a key part of refining and improving the processes and workflow of the studio.
Provide leadership to the team and report to the Team Leader regularly on concerns or issues.
Support the Studio Manager to ensure that assets are high quality, delivered on time and budget.
Assist with Art Direction and the production of key campaigns and projects.
Foster a team environment of high performance, responsiveness and customer service.
Assist manage Design and Production equipment and facilities.

Essential Requirements

A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Relevant qualifications or experience in project management, graphic design, visual or video production.
Excellent time management, organisational and planning skills, and an ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills with the ability to manage and build sustainable relationships and liaise with diverse and complex stakeholder groups.

A high level of professionalism and attention to detail.
Ability to calm, professional and dynamic under pressure and facing changing priorities.

Desirable Requirements

The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
Knowledge of industry-related software and/or equipment, including the Adobe Creative Suite.
Contemporary knowledge of industry trends and developments.

Additional Information

This position is located in Canberra, ACT. Successful applicants must be willing to relocate.
