The role of Squad Lead for the Onboard team is a leadership position overseeing the development and integration of software solutions for autonomous and automation projects across Fortescue. Reporting to the Software Development Coordinator, the Squad Lead plays a pivotal role in steering the squad towards delivering high-quality, efficient engineering solutions in alignment with solution architecture designs and product definitions.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and inspire the Development Squad, fostering a collaborative, effective and safe team culture.
Develop and execute delivery plans for solution development, aligning with solution architecture and product goals.
Collaborate with Partner Organisations, other Squad Leads and team members to define and implement best practice solution development and delivery.
Lead the creation of proof of concepts (PoCs) to assess the viability and benefits of new technologies or methodologies.
Ensure the developed solutions meet defined quality criteria and align with the software and solution architecture.
Oversee the production of detailed documentation for developed solutions and proof of concepts, ensuring clarity and accessibility.
Effectively manage resources within the Squad, optimising the team's capabilities to meet project delivery needs.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor or Masters degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
4+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on tool development and process improvement.
Strong leadership skills with experience in leading a software development squad.
Familiarity with software design principles and the ability to implement them in engineering tools.
Proficient in relevant technologies within the squad's scope (e.g. but not limited to: C++, Python, Git, CI/CD tools, test frameworks).
Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Strong problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset.
Proactive in identifying opportunities for process improvement and solution enhancement.
Effective collaborator, capable of working seamlessly within cross-functional teams.
