Settlements section within Payments Settlements (PS) is looking for a Senior Business Officer in its back office area.

The position will be a permanent part-time role, 3 days per week (Wednesday to Friday) and is based at Head Office.

The Senior Business Officer will assist both the Assistant Managers and Managers of the section to ensure daily back office operations are completed efficiently and that a high level of service is provided to all internal and external clients.

Daily operations are undertaken by a team of 11, including 2 Managers and 6 Assistant Managers, based at both Head Office and Norwest Business Park.

This section is deemed very critical given the nature of the daily operational work and there is a requirement to perform work on a rotational shift basis as follows (though these may vary slightly depending on operational needs and pressure)- Day - 7:30am - 4:22pm- Winter Shift - 9:42am - 6:30pm- Summer Shift - 11:42am - 8:30pm


You will have the opportunity to enhance your operational skills and experience within a highly critical area of the Bank.

This is an exciting time to be joining the Settlements team as we are at the heart of the various Bank projects required to support the move to ISO 20022 message standards.

About the Team


Settlements section is one of PS's core functions and is responsible for settling the Bank's own market transactions and high value transactions for the Bank's overseas clients and government agency customers.

The section works closely with Banking Department, FMG and the Bank's representative offices in London and New York (the latter also has a back office function).


As part of the team you will provide business operations guidance to key stakeholders as well as assist in internal and external contingency testing.

The role will require you to be adaptive, highly responsive, diligent and organised.

Your background

To be successful you should have:

  • Experience in a critical day to day operational environment involving tight deadlines.
  • Well-developed ability to accurately complete transactional processing to procedures.
  • Experience in back office or banking systems and functions.
  • Knowledge of (or interest in) high value payments and settlements practices in both foreign exchange and/or debt market securities.
Any ISO20022 experience would be favourably viewed but is not essential.
