About the role:

An exciting opportunity to join Box Hill Institute as our Assistant Accountant This position is fixed term until August 2025


The Assistant Accountant reports to the Financial Controller and will collaborate with other Finance staff, specifically the Financial Accountants and the Accounts Team Leader, in a range of capacities on an operational, day-to-day basis.


Within this role you will be responsible for carrying out professional accounting duties and you will have the opportunity to contribute significantly towards all aspects of finance operations, including compliance reporting, month-end processing, and transactional processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable and purchasing.

The Assistant Accountant also supports a wide range of financial services, including fleet management, oversight of credit card arrangements and treasury functions.


The role forms part of the broader Finance, Payroll and Procurement team, which is a dynamic group focused on process efficiency, quality outcomes, productive partnerships and a commitment to professionalism and continuous improvement.

The team is responsible for compliance with government regulations and BHI's financial policies and procedures by providing high quality advice and support to managers and employees engaged in financial transactions throughout the organisation.

This role is a full time, fixed term opportunity until August 2025. The salary is in line with level PACCT 4 $62,687.00 per annum (exclusive of superannuation).


About You:


  • A tertiary qualification in commerce and/or accounting that qualifies for entry into CA/CPA accreditation
  • Completed or studying towards the CA/CPA accreditation
  • Ability to cooperate and work well with others in the pursuit of team goals. Collaborates and shares information appropriately whilst accommodating and working well with the different working styles of others
  • A high level of interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with demonstrated experience in preparing high quality, accurate correspondence and reports to stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to regularly plan and track progress on work tasks and takes an organised and methodical approach to work. Addresses priority tasks first
  • High level of problemsolving skills including the ability to exercise sound judgement and make recommendations when necessary
  • Ability to proactively identify opportunities outside of standard practice and implement business improvements. Seize opportunities and act upon them. Ability to take responsibility for own actions
