About the Role

The primary function of the Data Insights Analyst is to analyse data to inform strategic decision making and report on performance outcomes through the provision of reports and analysis of data.


You will play a key role in delivering strategic and management reporting solutions across a range of functions within the Melbourne School of Professional and Continuing Education (MSPACE).


This will require liaison with functional areas across MSPACE to identify metrics, relevant data sources, data quality issues and areas for improvement.

It involves the collation of data from multiple sources, integration of non-complementary data sets and the visualisation of data into meaningful reports and insights.

The Data Insights Analyst will play a significant role in designing and implementing analytics capability within the School.

The incumbent will be responsible for all activities relating to the sourcing, collation, manipulation, and interpretation of data, including communication of insights relating to all stages of the student life cycle.

A key component of the role is to facilitate evidence-based decision making through the provision of quantitative data and reporting.


You will possess strong programming, quantitative analysis, and communication skills to conceptualise, explore various business questions, and draw meaningful insights from the analysis of appropriate data.


The role requires a high level of independence, attention to detail and self-motivation, as well as close working relationships with staff in MSPACE and staff from across the University.


Responsibilities include:

  • Independently resolving significant reporting and data challenges to meet the requirements of faculties and schools.
  • Advancing data analysis across the endtoend data analysis process, from data collection and cleaning to interpretation and communication of results to influence senior decision making.
  • Ensuring the integration of different data sources working with Business Services, OneCRM, Business Development and Finance to design bespoke faculty reporting solutions.
  • Developing and implementing data strategies to support the overall goals and objectives of the organisation.

About You

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate experience influencing senior decision making and have strong problem-solving, communication and analytical skills as evidenced by successful communication of data to senior leaders.

You will show experience in the collection, analysis, and presentation of statistical data from complex databases and providing advice to a diverse range of stakeholders.

You will also have outstanding organisational skills, self-motivation, and attention to detail with a strong work ethic, commitment to continuous improvement, openness to innovative ideas and creative approaches to problem solving within established timelines.


You will also have:

  • A postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline such as information systems, statistics, finance, or business and/or relevant professional experience.
  • A strong understanding of statistical and data analysis techniques, as well as experience with programming languages such as Python or R, and tools such as Excel and SQL and intermediate to advanced skills in PowerBI or Tablea
