In this role, you'll:


be responsible for managing routine surveillance activities and assisting the Manager in complex surveillance activities on nominated contract works for the administration of road and/or bridge construction works to ensure delivery in accordance with client time, quality and scope requirements.


The Surveillance Officer will also be responsible for:

  • Managing routine surveillance activities across a broad range of projects and maintaining detailed site records of work performed and construction activities to ensure all works are carried out in accordance with the quality systems and contract documents.
  • Conducting safety and environmental management and risk assessments and safe work method statement reviews to ensure that work is completed in a safe and environmentally acceptable manner.
  • Participating in the assessment of contract documentation such as Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), Environmental Management Plans (EMP), Environmental Work Method Statements, Traffic Management Plans (TMP), Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS), and other planning documentation to ensure that contract documentation is accurate and robust.
  • Assessing and reporting on the implementation of plans onsite and on contractor performance to ensure that management plans for construction site are appropriately implemented.
  • Providing a consistent approach to surveillance across the Region by providing expert advice to the Manager and contributing to effective planning programs of surveillance, traffic and environmental management, including monitoring progress of works and identification of nonconformance issues.
  • Verifying that construction site activities of contractors and public authorities are performed in accordance with the applicable policies, practices and standards.

About you

  • You have trade qualifications in a relevant field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • You have demonstrated knowledge of and experience with the implementation of quality assurance systems, WHS and environmental management systems in construction industry projects.
  • You have demonstrated experience in planning and implementing surveillance and in monitoring and assessing compliance against standards, policy and practices.
  • You have the ability to work collaboratively and use your excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build strong constructive relationships with stakeholders in a construction and/or maintenance environment.
  • You're proactive and use your initiative and attention to detail to get things done and resolve issues independently.
  • You have experience working on your own and in teams to tight deadlines and have a successful track record in delivering great customer experience outcomes.
  • Any qualifications in Environment, Safety and/or quality management will be highly regarded.
  • You hold a current unrestricted NSW Motor Vehicle driver's licence.


You may be required to work outside of normal working hours on occasion, and you may be required to travel throughout the region and work at locations away from home on occasion.
