Job location
The Mental Health Transition Service (MHTS) initiative will provide support across 4 Prison Services sites including:

  • 4 positions at Metropolitan Remand Centre
  • 2 positions at Melbourne Assessment Prison
  • 2 positions at Dame Phyllis Frost Centre
  • 2 positions at Ravenhall Correctional Centre

About the Role:


The 2021 Royal Commission into Victoria's Mental Health System (RCVMHS) identified a gap in support for people living with mental illness who are released from prison.

The Mental Health Transition Service (MHTS) has been established to support this with multiple roles created to be able to deliver this initiative.


These multidisciplined roles will range from Social Work and Occupational Therapists Grade 2, Psychologist P2 and Forensic Mental Health Nursing RPN3.

All roles will include shift work and be part of a 6-week rotating roster.


Duties:


  • Delivery of high quality care coordination and crisis response
  • Contribute to the development and review of comprehensive Mental Health Recovery Plans, including transition plans, risk management plans and crisis plans.
  • Work collaboratively with Corrections staff in developing risk assessments, care planning and release plans for consumers.
  • Provide support and education to families and carers in the ongoing treatment and care of the consumer.

About You:


  • Post qualification experience within mental health, preferably recent experience in community mental health setting or a demonstration of significant and extensive experience working within a secondary/tertiary mental health service.
  • Thorough understanding and demonstrated commitment to mental health consumer Recovery, including the modelling and leading of Recovery focused initiatives.
  • Knowledge of community based resources, including (but not limited to) NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme), drug and alcohol and accommodation services.

All positions will work off a 6-week rotating shift roster. Ability to work within this environment is essential

These roles are multidisciplined and requirements are dependant on you discipline expertise.


Nursing

  • Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).

Occupational Therapy

  • Approved degree in Occupational Therapy recognised for membership of Occupational Therapy Australia
  • Australian Association of Occupational Therapists.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).

Psychology

  • Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from an Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited course or equivalent, or a Doctorate degree in Forensic Psychology from an APS accredited course or equivalent.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulations Agency (AHPRA).

Social Work

  • Approved degree in Social Work and eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
