Position Information:

William Rose School located in Western Sydney is an inclusive Kindergarten to Year 12 School for Specific Purposes (SSP).

William Rose School supports students with complex learning needs and is committed to providing students with disability an educational environment where they "thrive academically, develop good physical, mental and emotional health, and gain the skills to live a fulfilling, independent life post-school" (Disability Strategy - A Living Document).

Inclusion is embedded in all aspects of school life, and is supported by culture, policies and everyday practices.


87 students are enrolled and offered diverse learning opportunities, enabling them to build skills in problem solving, making decisions and self-advocacy.

70% of our student population are identified as English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) learners. 8% of our student population are Aboriginal students. The curriculum is tailored to individual students and reasonable adjustments within teaching strategies are supported in everyday practice.

Selection Criteria:

In addition to the general selection criteria;

  • Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience teaching students with complex needs inclusive of intellectual, sensory and physical needs, autism, and behaviours of distress.
  • Extensive knowledge and demonstrated understanding of curriculum and assessment for students with special needs from K-12, and a proven capacity to lead and work collaboratively with staff to develop quality differentiated programs.
  • An open, visible, and approachable leader with outstanding organisation, communication, and interpersonal skills, who empowers staff and builds positive, authentic relationships, and balances the dual roles of exemplary classroom teacher and community leader.

General Selection Criteria:


  • Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
  • Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
  • Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
  • Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
  • Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
