This is an exciting phase in our history and we are looking for an experienced Mechanical Fitter, based in Melbourne that will see you working within our Engineering Services division.

As the Mechanical Fitter, your key responsibilities will include, but not limited to;Assembly of fabricated/ manufactured parts into products and assembles sub-assemblies to produce machines and equipment
Perform machining (manual and CNC machines), fabrication and welding as required for standard and non-standard production
Integration of trial assemblies to platforms
Performing mechanical diagnostics and fault finding during assembly
Conduct calibration, maintenance, repair and overhaul of QinetiQ products and assemblies
Can provide advice and guidance to professional engineers and designers, positively influencing designs and projects
Support QA of material and sub-assemblies (inwards and outwards)
Performing function and end of line checks and tests
Provide input into new product development and installation guides
Provide input into operating and maintenance documentation
To be successful in the role of Mechanical Fitter, you will need demonstrated experience, knowledge & skills in the following areas:
Trades qualification as Fitter & Turner/ Toolmaker or Cert-IV in engineering or equivalent
Forklift operator licence
Proven experience in safe maintenance and operation of industrial machinery including lathes, mills and brake press
Attention to detail, with complex problem solving and analytical skills, with a positive can-do attitude
Ability to work in a changing environment both forward on customer test/range environments and within a workshop environment
Leads proactive management of safety, quality, security and project performance
Computer and IT literate proficient in Microsoft Office products
A strong customer focus and be driven to achieve agreed targets
Operating of waterjet machine (Desirable)
Experience interpreting and working with CAD models and design tools (Desirable).
Previous Defence experience (Desirable).
Can provide technical direction and training to other technical staff in routine work. (Desirable)
Is able to check work of others (peer review) including formal certification of quality checks (Desirable)
