Position Information:


Les Powell School is located in Mount Pritchard in south-west Sydney which is part of the Fairfield Local Government Area and the Department of Education Liverpool Principals Network.

The school caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 12 with moderate and severe intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities and complex health conditions.

Enrolment trends have remained consistent over the last 5 years with the average enrolment being 74 students across 12 classes.

92% of the students come from language backgrounds other than English with the most common languages being Arabic and Vietnamese.

The school serves a community with a Family Occupation and Education Index (FOEI) of 172, with 64% of families in Quarter 1 of the socio-economic index that is used to calculate equity-based finding by the Department.

These funds are important for acquiring additional human, physical and financial resources used to redress impacts of socio-economic disadvantage.

Facilities provided for students include three playground areas, a heated hydrotherapy pool, library, a Mini Woolies partnership, a bike and walking track, a living skills facility and a liberty swing.

  • Dynamic leadership and networking skills that foster partnerships and connections beyond the school for strong learning, wellbeing and transition outcomes for students with disabilities.
  • Deep understanding of the implications of leading a community of diverse cultures and backgrounds that enables informed, inclusive and coordinated family and community support for student learning and wellbeing.
  • Effective leadership of change management that mobilises executive, teaching and support staff members for continuous improvement and enhanced systems and administration in the school.

General Selection Criteria:


  • High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
  • Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
  • High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
  • Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
  • Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
  • Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
